This course is designed for parents who want to support their children to speak te reo Māori.
You are your child's main language role model - so work on being the best you can be.
By completing this course you will be able to do the following:
- Build confidence in te reo Māori at home by expanding vocabulary and learning practical phrases.
- Strengthen the Māori language bond between parent and child.
- Encourage whānau language use by weaving te reo Māori naturally into routines, play, and whānau interactions.
This course comprises a range of lessons which you can complete in your own time and in any sequence you like.
Each lesson will take about 10 minutes - that's probably all the time you have as a busy parent!

ME UPOKO PAKARU – KIA RITE!
By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
- say a basic pepeha (mihi) to introduce themselves
- say a basic karakia which can be used to start a meeting
- pronounce basic Māori words correctly
- use basic greetings in and around the office
- talk about the status of the Māori language and why it is important
- use a range of strategies to learn language.
ME UPOKO PAKARU – KIA ORA!
By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:
- use some basic conversational language around the workplace
- be able to answer questions that may be asked around the workplace
- understand tikanga around the workplace
- use a range of strategies to learn language
- pronounce Māori words correctly
- confidently use basic te reo Māori in correspondence.
